1. Acadia National Park & Mount Desert Island

Acadia is one of the country's smallest national parks, but it packs in a lot of sites. The park has rocky beaches, wetlands, spruce-fir forests, and granite peaks. One of Acadia's biggest attractions is the 1,530-foot-high Cadillac Mountain, the tallest point on the eastern coast of the United States. Acadia National Park was the first national park created from private gifts from the public through the efforts of conservation-minded citizens. Acadia was first established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in July 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson. Then it was changed to Lafayette National Park in February 1919 when it became the first national park east of the Mississippi. It was not until January 1929 that it officially was named Acadia National Park. Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island just off Bar Harbor, Maine.

2. Pemaquid Point Light

The first lighthouse at Pemaquid Point was constructed in 1827. Eight years later, the poor construction of the original tower meant that a new tower  had to be built at the station. The new station was completed in 1835. Pemaquid Point Light received its first Fresnel lens, a type of lens used in light houses to make a brighter bean, in 1856. The name “Pemaquid” is an Abenaki Indian word meaning “situated far out.” At this location in the 1600s, English immigrants established a settlement. Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is 38 feet height. The lighthouse is in New Harbor, Maine.

3. Old Orchard Beach

The pier originally cost $38,000 to build in 1898 and was made of steel. The ferris wheel in Palace Playland was replaced in 2011 to be more environmentally friendly. Old Orchard Beach is the 27th largest town in Maine in terms of population. At Old Orchard Beach you can relax on the beach, rent boats, go fishing, eat, and have fun. Every Thursday they have fireworks. It is also the location of an annual car show and beach olympics.
